Mary Louis
A friend, a broken shop, and a conversation that got out of hand.
Mary is a friend of mine, and Mary Louis is her: she makes the jewellery, names the pieces and decides what a collection is. What she had was a shop someone had built by hand for her, and it was falling apart. Bugs everywhere, no order history, orders that simply failed. The worst part wasn't the bugs. It was that she was losing sales and had no way of knowing.
It came up the way these things do, in a conversation that wasn't about work: her listing everything that was broken, me saying I'd been learning Shopify. That was the whole brief. I rebuilt the shop there, moved everything across from the old one, and wrote the theme myself so it looked like her brand and not like a template.
Then I taught her the shop, which was the actual point: she runs the drops, the pre-orders and the new collections herself now, and I show up once in a while.
